Why Beginners Should Buy A Cheap Violin

Learning to play a musical instrument demands commitment, and many do not succeed in sustaining an interest in the hard work that it takes to learn to play. Until a learner is sure that the musical instrument selected is a good fit, it doesn’t make sense to spend large sums of money on something that isn’t a sure thing and in the early stages is more of a gamble.

If a student quits and moves on to something else, little investment means little loss. Beginning students are liable to put their instruments through a lot of abuse through practice and other wear and tear as they learn proper technique, care and maintenance of their instruments. Strings are broken, bows are snapped and instruments are essentially beginner-violinbanged around and mistreated until the student learns proper handling of their instrument.

This part of the learning process is not something that is cost effective with a more expensive violin and should be reserved for the cheaper varieties until sufficient skill, care and maintenance is demonstrated.

With a cheap violin, lack of commitment, expected wear and tear and abandonment for a more suitable instrument are all realities for the beginner. Spending money for anything better than a cheap beginning violin before a student has demonstrated commitment and competency simply isn’t cost effective. However, mastering a poor quality instrument builds upon a student’s technique, increasing skills that will transfer beautifully to a better quality violin when the beginner plays proficiently and is ready to progress.
